Quilting With Compassion

The wonderful quilting ladies, lead by Angeles Meinshausen, have again come forward with a very generous donation for surgeries.  This week, I collected 18,800 RMB from this group.  Part of this financial gift came from Angeles’ course fee paid by each student, another portion from Lorraine Caravetta who provides quilting supplies for the classes through her New York story called, “The Happy Quilter”.  Another part was from raffling a quilt during a holiday party at Contemporary Spirit Villas in Gubei where classes are held.  The management at these villas is so supportive of Angeles’ classes and the work of Baobei, and have even donated some money directly to our foundation.  So I guess the donation came together much like a quilt- piece by piece- adding up to one very significant contribution!  Thanks to all of you for your compassion towards the children!

Celebrating a Year of Blessings

January brought the mark of Baobei Foundation’s first anniversary. In one year, with the dedication and commitment of over 100 volunteers and our wonderful staff workers, we completed over 30 procedures on 19 orphans. When the co-founders talked about starting this charity, we thought a reasonable first year goal would be 6 surgeries. We have been so blessed by your overwhelming support, allowing the foundation to accomplish so much more! We missed you, Ting Ting and Dr. Bao!!! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Zhi Liang and his talented Shanghai Conservatory orchestra

This sort of success deserves some celebrating! Thanks to the generosity of Zhi Liang, New York- based, Shanghai-born pianist/composer, and Wagas’ Room Twenty-Eight staff, we had an elegant evening of counting our blessings and giving thanks for the many orphan lives we were able to impact with Shanghai Children’s Medical Center in 2008.

Zhi Liang’s Gift to Baobei Foundation- our own song

Our greatest gift was from Zhi Liang who, when visiting Shanghai in early 2008, heard about our work and was so moved he composed a song entitled “Baobei” (precious one). He debuted his song for us during this wonderful evening. You have touched our hearts, Zhi Liang! Thank you for your incredible generosity! (This song will be on an upcoming CD. His most recent CD is “Prayer” and can be found on Amazon.com.)

The Room Twenty-Eight food was as delicious as ever, served with perfection from their attentive staff. Something about just sitting in that beautiful room makes me feel warm all over! Thank you, Wagas!!! It was perfect!

Sharing the Blessings of Baobei

As we forge ahead in 2009, we look forward to another year of working with you to provide life saving surgeries to the precious ones of China.
