Our work is supported by private individuals and businesses who generously sacrifice their resources to save the lives of orphans. In response, Baobei does its part by operating as responsibly and as efficiently as possible.
80% of our funding goes to medical care costs, 15% goes to daily childcare costs, and 5% goes to fundraising and administrative costs. We have intentionally kept administrative costs (expenditures used to keep the foundation itself running such as office rental, fundraising, administrative staff, printing, etc.) to a minimum so as to maximize the amount of funds used to care for our children. We also keep our daily childcare costs low, so we can spend the majority of our financial resources on medical care. Our medical and childcare costs include hospital & doctors' fees, medical supplies, medical and childcare management, in-hospital childcare, transportation, and post-surgical therapy.
Volunteer resources play an important role in Baobei’s financial model. Because the majority of our staff are volunteers—including the Executive Director, international medical consultants, healing homes, fundraisers—and because the majority or our space needs are donated, Baobei is able to leverage our donations so that every RMB donated is translated into over five RMB of care for our children.
The current average cost of a major surgery and associated costs is 10,000 USD or 60,000 RMB. Each baby often receives multiple surgeries to address his or her problem. Baobei applies donations to children who are currently most in need of financial support.
